Refresher Course: Environmental Science, Management and Policy

 

This 5-session training course is for those interested in refreshing their memory on topics in Environmental Science, Management and Policy.
The design of the course includes selected topics from the ESMP Chapter of the Hong Kong Institute of Environmental Professionals Limited (HKIQEP).

  2. Environmental Pollution, Industrial Ecology and Product Stewardship (30 July, 10am-12pm)
  3. Environmental Public Policy and International Conventions (2 August, 7-9pm)

  5. Fundamentals of Corporate Sustainability & Reporting (6 August, 9am-11am)

EMAHK reserves the rights to cancel any sessions and to make variations to the schedules, contents, and mode of delivery of the courses offered if there are unforeseeable circumstances. Upon the announcement from the Government of HKSAR, the course will be scheduled to online class via ZOOM. Applicants shall ensure his/ her device for the online ZOOM class.
  7. For course cancellation, fees will be refunded by ordinary post.

Effective Control of Single-use Plastics in Hong Kong

 

To provide the public with information about single-use plastics and explore ways to gradually control non-essential and hard-to-recycle single-use plastic items, territory-wide public engagement (PE) exercise adopting a bottom-up and stakeholder-oriented approach was conducted the Council for Sustainable Development (SDC) in 2021. During this PE, a total of 35 engagement events were organised with around 2,600 people participated. SDC also received and analysed over 9,400 views collection forms, 60 written submissions from public and trades and successfully interviewed 1,003 persons via the randomized telephone opinion survey. On 14 Apr 2022, SDC presented the 24 recommendations across 5 key areas to the government on the control of single use plastics. This seminar aims to equip our members with a better understanding of these recommendations and initiatives.

The Application of Climate Risk Assessment in Hong Kong

 

The Chief Executive outlined her vision in the 2021 Policy Address to build a liveable city that can withstand the crises of extreme weather brought by global climate change. Hong Kong’s Climate Action Plan 2050 was published shortly after the Policy Address stressing the need to reduce carbon emissions to help reduce the risk of extreme weather in the next 20 to 30 years. Freeman will share with us an overview of Hong Kong’s Climate Action Plan 2050 on what we need to do to tackle the problem of global climate change through the use of Climate Risk Assessment to improve our climate resilience.
