Lying in the transition zone between the tropical and temperate regions, Hong Kong has a diverse ecological environment with forests, shrublands, grasslands, streams, seas, and wetlands, nurturing a wide range of wildlife. However, our precious local ecological environment is facing threats. Learning about our local ecology can build a foundation for sustainable biodiversity conservation and environmental management before pushing forward any actions in both rural and urban areas.
- Introduces basic concepts in ecology, ecology of Hong Kong and interrelationships between ecology and other disciplines.
- Discusses pressing ecological issues and reviews the effectiveness of current conservation measures.
- Introduces practical ecological conservation and assessment methods; students will develop basic skills in conducting biodiversity survey through fieldwork.
Mode of Study: Part-time (classes on weekdays evenings and weekends)
Teaching Medium: English, supplemented with Cantonese
